Where are you from and how was life growing up? I’m born, raised, and currently reside in Nashville, Tennessee. I grew up out North, which is a predominantly black area in the city. Growing up life was humbling, it show’d me not to take even the smallest thing for granted.Ā

How did the rap name come to be? My government is Jordan Young, and freshman year of college I had a group of friends. It was another Jordan in the group and they called him Jwoo, combining his first and last name. So they just did the same wit me and called me Jyou and it just stuck with everybody.Ā

Where does the inspiration come from for creating music?Ā  I can draw inspiration from anywhere really such as: a conversation, a connection, an experience, an emotion, sometimes even listening to music can inspire me. It just depends on my mood.Ā

What artists inspired you the most and who do you currently listen to? Kendrick Lamar & Frank Ocean are probably my biggest musical inspiration. Their pen game is otherworldly and the growth from project to project is unmatched.

Currently I’ve been having Tyler, The Creator’s album on repeat since it dropped. I’ve been fw Tyler since the goblin days so to see him develop like this, especially over his last 3 albums, it’s truly inspiring.

What kind of support do you get from your home town/state?Ā The artist I collab with on the regular such as K.O.N., FSO Ebandz, Ashley, Yours Truly, Jai and more are always super supportive of everything I do! I love nashville hip hop/r&b music scene. Everybody is so supportive of each other and always showing love. Whether it’s on the net or showing up to events, the city really shows up and shows out!Ā

If you wasn’t rapping, what would you be doing right now?Ā  Same thing ! Being around music either on the production side, or management, or journalism, I have no preference. Just love to be around music, it’s my passion!

What really makes you stand out and different from other artists? I’m extremely versatile! No matter what beat or vibe of the song I believe I can make any type of song. That mentality has allowed me to step out the box with my music, because now I try any and everything I feel like at that moment. Like I got a bunch of rock songs I’m saving up to drop a rock album in a couple years lmao!

What’s your biggest goal in the music industry? My biggest goal is to maximize my ability to make and orchestrate music. I want to be able to make and arrange all of it, even play multiple instruments. I just don’t want to be limited to anything. And of course make enough money to live comfortably off of the music.Ā

If you could collaborate with one single artist who would it be and why? Tyler, The Creator and he be making some of the grooviest music. I know we’d make a classic!Ā

Favorite Artists of all time and why? Stevie Wonder and because I binge listen to Songs in the Key of Life every couple months for like 2 weeks straight like I’ve never heard it before lmao. Bro is timelessĀ

What advice would you give to inspiring rappers? Put in the time! It’s a craft like any other type of art, so it takes practice and effort! And make music for yourself, everything else will follow!Ā
