How was life growing up?

My childhood was great. I had two loving parents who put me through different activities to see what I would become accustomed to. One of my passions was theatre, which I started at the age of 5. The only problem I would say I had was growing up bi-racial. My mom is of Hispanic decent and my father is African American. I attended private Catholic school from Kindergarden through High School and no one looked like me until I got to High School. I would say that was the most difficult part since I was bullied.

How did you get your stage name?

My first name is Kamila and my middle name is Dawn… pretty simple 🙂

When and how did you start making music?

As mentioned I started at the early age of 5 in theatre, but my passion grew for music when I was 16. I joined band, vocal jazz, drumline, and a pop singing group all in the same year since our school had just started offering these extra curricular activities. When I was 19 that’s when I started to actually record music.

How would you describe your music for someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I would say my music reigns from Aaliyah with a mix of Kehlani. My genre is R&B with some Jazz and a hint of Trap put in the middle.

What artists inspired you the most and who do you currently listen to?

I love old school artists such as Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday & Gladys Knight. These influential artists are part of the reason I get my soulful tendencies in my voice. As far as today’s artists I would say Chris Brown and Bruno Mars are currently, who I’m streaming.

At what point did you start taking music more seriously?

I started taking music seriously when I turned 19. I was going to a film school for TV production, but since music had always been a passion of mine, I decided to pursue it.

What kind of support do you get from your home town/state?

I’m from Los Angeles, but it’s crazy the support I get from east coast especially New York. I’ve only ever lived in LA, but my following is all from NY. The support is great from everywhere though!

What really makes you stand out and different from other artists?

I think since my music ranges from soulful to trap there’s not many artists out there that do different genres.

What’s your biggest goal in the music industry?

My biggest goal is to be influential with my music. I love the compliments I receive about how I helped someones day with my soulful vibes.

If you could collaborate with one single artist who would it be and why?

I would LOVE to collab with Bruno Mars. He is super talented and always puts on a great show. I honestly look up to him as an artist since he is super raw.
