Meet Corio, a Lexington Kentucky artist that’s been in our music rotation since his former name “YNL Capone”. Check out his full interview below and let us know what you think on out Instagram.
Interview:
How was life growing up?
Life was always good. I lived in middle class suburbs till about 11-12 then moved to a more low class living area after that. Ball was life so I just stayed at the park all day. Life was good though, nothing too low nothing too high.
How did the rap name come to be?
The name Corio is actually my last name. A boring story but yeah it’s just my last name.
Why the name change?
My last name was a nickname that came from a lifestyle I lived for a small portion of my life. I feel like using my last name allows me to be my complete self. I can tell all my stories comfortably as Corio.
When and how did you start making music?
When I was younger, like 8 or 9, I used to play with this 16 track recorder, a keyboard and a guitar. When I turned like 12-13 I just focused on basketball and didn’t really pick it back up until my friends convinced me to get back into it around 19.

How would you describe your music for someone who hasn’t heard you before?
I would have to just tell them I guarantee there’s a song for you. I try to stay versatile so my stories can reach everybody. To sum it all up id just tell them it’s a little bit of everything.
What artists inspired you the most and who do you currently listen to?
Wayne, Drake, Fred Hammond, The beetles, Jimi, and Mary Mary inspired me the most. At the moment man I just listen to whatever song can get played on repeat until I’m tired of it. I listen to anyone if the song is good.
At what point did you start taking music more seriously?
2 years ago I would’ve told you “I’m serious” but it all didn’t really kick in until this past summer on my birthday, June 10th. That night all I could think about was music, the next week I knocked out 11 songs in a week. After that week I knew I was ready and I knew it was time to get serious if I want it.
What kind of support do you get from your home town/state?
I get love from the people for sure, not other artists, that’s a different story. It’s only a few artist that actually show real love. The people though, man I get love everywhere I go. My city and state definitely support good music and they definitely are against hate. I’m a proud Kentuckian for sure.

What really makes you stand out and different from other artists?
I can make a song in any genre known to man if I wanted to. That’s not even me being cocky in any way because I’ve tried at least 7 genres and all 7 sound good. It’s a gift from being raised listening to so many different types of music everyday.
What’s your biggest goal in the music industry?
In the industry I just don’t wanna get taken advantage of. As for my music I just want everyone to feel like they can relate and escape because that’s how I feel when I make the songs. It’s therapy to me.
If you could collaborate with one single artist who would it be and why?
Man cmon now, Drake! Gotta go for the top if you can only choose one. If he not available I’m taking Lil Baby tho.
Advice to upcoming artists?
Stay yourself. Everyone know when you’re faking it and only a genuine career can become legendary.
