We had a moment to catch up with GiGi aka FineAzzGiGi a upcoming artist born in Pittsburgh, PA Check out her full interview below and let us know what you think on our Instagram page
How was life growing up?
My childhood was rough. I grew up in Pittsburgh PA with my three other siblings Josh (the oldest), Manny (middle), my sister Destiny (the youngest) and my mom. Growing up my brother was in and out of jail and eventually had to do five years in prison so he was not around as much as we would have liked. Though he wasn’t around he always took care of me and my family. My dad was never really in my life growing up as a kid so I donāt have much to say about him. My mother was in my life and definitely is a great mother when she is clean. However she was addicted to drugs my whole childhood and even some of adulthood. It was hard seeing my mom on drugs and leaving us at home and not returning for 3-6 days. Which made me grow up faster and was forced to play the mother role to my two younger siblings destiny and manny. Growing up we moved from home to home and stayed with my grandmother a lot when my mom would relapse. After my grandmother passed away we stayed with my aunt Odetta who is like a second mother to me. She always took us in when my mom would relapse. To be honest if it was not for her we would have been in and out of foster care. My mom is definitely a good mother when she is clean and always got herself together and came back for us. Which again forced us to be moved around a lot. Growing up we really did not have a lot of money. My mom never worked so she got checks for all of us which probably came to about 3,000 a month and we lived off that. She had to take care of 3 kids and also one in jail all by herself so I will forever be thankful because even though she was not perfect we never went without clothes on our back and food to eat. Growing up I went to high school in Pittsburgh ābrashear high school” and always would fight and get kicked out of school. Tbh I think I had a lot of anger built up from how my life was at home that I was just a angry person. I always was smart though so my gpa was always good. I just fought a lot. Growing up my mom would always say you’re gonna be a doctor so I kinda already had in my head what I wanted to become because of my mom. I also never wanted to live the lifestyle I lived as a kid, living check to check and on food stamps and worried about how we are gonna pay bills and afford school clothes. I knew I had to pick a career that made enough money to afford the lifestyle I wanted to live. I left home and went to college in 2013 to 2017 and graduated with my BSN in nursing and moved to Atlanta, Ga .
How did you get your stage name?
My best friend gave me my stage name. One day we were talking about rap names. She at first came up with the name Gi because she was reading a book ātrue to the game ā and she said the girls best friend name was Giā but I felt it was too plain so I added another Gi and we came up with Gigi. Later after that I wanted to change my Instagram name so we came up with Fineazzgigiā¦
When and how did you start making music?
I started writing songs in 2017. Me and my ex-boyfriend used to always be In bed and I would tell him I wanted to rap. He always would put me on the spot in front of people and tell them I can rap but I always was scared to let people hear me because I did not believe in myself. Eventually gained enough confidence to start rapping out loud. That is when my family realized that I could actually rap. I still never took it seriously because I just graduated from college and became a registered nurse. After a while my ex kept telling me to go to the studio and just see what I sound like with an engineer. I had my first studio session in 2019 where I made a song that never got released called āBBAā(bad bitch anthem). After that I realized I really could actually rap and I was good at it. I was not just a pretty face and nice body that went in the studio and said some bull Shit like a lot of females. I actually have bars! Still crazy to me that little ole me can rap and I never knew this. Sometimes I wish I was like other artists and started when I was young but I would be lying if I said that. All I know is with my ambition and drive that I have Iām not gonna stop until I make it big. Looking back on when I made BBA, now Iām happy I waited to drop music. Iām so much better now and Iām so confident in my music that I know Iām gonna make it big and be mainstream one day. My single ālike meā drops September 25, 2020 and itās only the beginning. Imma be the biggest female artist just watch.
How would you describe your music for someone who hasnāt heard you before?
My music is very upbeat, I like to make music that people are gonna feel. When I say this I mean I never wanna come up with a line that has no meaning behind. I want my music to encourage, uplift, and motivate men and women that you can do anything you put your mind to. I want my supporters to feel like you that bitch/nigga and aināt nobody fucking with you.. on some cocky Shit(period)!

What artists inspired you the most and who do you currently listen to?
Cardi B⦠I just feel like she really put on for women and showed that shit ā if I can do it you can do it ā. I also gotta give Nicki her props too because she definitely paved the way for us female rappers. I also love mulatto as well. I feel like she really grinded from the bottom and never gave up. Thatās a true definition of a go getter forreal and thatās motivation it self
At what point did you start taking music more seriously?
I started taking music seriously a couple months ago to be honest. I just started to gain this confidence all of a sudden. After going to the studio for a year straight of course not consistent because I had so many things going on in my life.I decided I have to start taking it more seriously after me and my ex broke up and I got Ā myself back together and decided to go back to the studio. I also Always had a problem with my quality and then I came across my engineer Yungjay1anonly who is also artists As well. He started working with me on my songs and helping me with the quality and thatās when I kind of started to get better with putting a whole song together and making sure it sounds good enough to be played on the radio or to pitch to DJs. Now Iām way more confident than Iāve ever been and I know I can rap so I decided that Iām gonna give it my all. I believe in myself and I know that if I stay consistent Iām gonna make it
What kind of support do you get from your home town/state? (Include
state/city)
I feel like right now because I have not dropped music yet consistently that a lot of people donāt know that I rap. But I do get a lot of support from my city when I post my freestyles and my snippets in the studio. Everybody is just ready for me to drop and I know my city gone fuck with me. We donāt have any female artist that ever came out of Pittsburgh that made it big. I will be the first and that is enough motivation for my city to be behind me.
What really makes you stand out and different from other artists?
I really feel like I stand out because Iām not your average rapper (no shade) but I have a whole degree. Iām a registered nurse so Iām not doing it for the money. I literally rap because I love doing it, I love creating and getting a beat and making it into a song. I also want to give the music industry something different. I always had people ask me why I wanted to rap, they would say Iām a nurse and I should just stick to that because itās a whole different lifestyle and could possibly jeopardize my license and the four years of college I did would be a waste. I knew I could do both, Iām different! I want to show young girls and young boys that you can have a good job/career and also do something you love at the same time.
Whatās your biggest goal in the music industry?Ā
My biggest goal is to make a difference. Bring other Rappers up with me, start my own label and sign artists once I reach that peak of success where I can do so. I just want to change lives and become the greatest to ever do it.
If you could collaborate with one single artist who would it be and why?
Lil Wayne⦠since I was kid I always loved Wayne. He was one of my favorite rappers growing up so itās only right once I make it to collaborate with him. That literally would be so crazy to me to collaborate with someone I looked up to as a kid. I mean Wayne is the G.O.A.T. and I gotta work with him one day.
