Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Frankfort, Kentucky.

What was life like growing up?

Growing up for the most part I was really blessed. As I got older I started running into small mishaps but nothing to major, things a lot of kids go through. Frankfort is the capital city of Kentucky but it’s really small. But growing up I love city and still do.

What got you into music?

Since a young age music has been a big part of my life. My dad listened to a lot 80’s and 90’s R&B like 112, New Edition, and Bell Biv DeVoe to name a few. He also played a lot of Biggie, Rakim, the Fugees, and Outkast. I really enjoyed that. As I got older I started exploring more traditional rap like Slum Village and a Tribe Called Quest. In grade school I wanted to DJ and thats when I discovered I really had a passion for music and exploring not just hip hop but all genres. It wasn’t until my senior year in high school until I started making music myself. One day after school I recoded a few songs through my IPHONE Microphone in my moms car in garage band. I put them out the next day on soundcloud and kids in my hometown went crazy for them. Thats when I really knew this is something I could do and Ive been working on the craft ever since.

First song that really got you some attention?

The first song to get me attention and people to start listening to me was a song called “THRU.” It was one of the ones I made in my mom’s car. It’s still on Soundcloud right now and the quality isn’t the best but it was one of the first songs I ever made. A lot of people still aren’t familiar with me yet as an artist and once people do I feel like my music will gravitate fast. I feel like “PERFXTION” and these next songs I have coming out I think will be the ones that really get me attention.

How did you get your name?

When I started making music I personally didn’t have a name so I just sat in my room one night and came up with AGIFT. I feel my music and what I provide people is a gift and I want to inspire people so they can be a gift to society and others as well.

Who is your biggest music inspiration?

*I have a lot inspirations, and the
more music and genres I explore broadens that. I don’t want to make just
hip hop and rap, I want to be the most versatile artist possible. I can’t
really name any specifically but just a lot of musicians and artist. I want
create my own sound though most importantly so I say another big
inspiration is myself and analyzing vibes, feelings, and situations I go
through or have gone through and turning it into music. *

What has been the most difficult part of being a music artist?

*I say themost difficult part is getting the resources you need to work starting out. the moment, I just go record when I can and get enough money so it sparingly. Im a studio rat, I would live, eat, and shower in the studio day in and day out and just put in work. Right now Im trying to find a way to get the resources I need so I can on a consistent basis. I feel like once
Im able to work day in and day out, that’s when my music will excel and I
feel like everything else will come with it. *

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I definitely see myself in a totally different situation. I think I’ll be one of the biggest artist out of Kentucky and one of the biggest in general. Im into fashion design to so I think that will have a lot traction as well. Just me continuing to push the limits of this and doing things that people have never scene from an artist. Not doing things the traditional way from shows to sound. Just continuing to be me.

If you could collab with one artist who would it be and why?

*That’s such a hard question because there so many people I want to work with. A dream of mine would be Kanye West. Growing up he was my favorite artist, I love College Drop Out and the Graduation. I love every project he’s put out. At times he can say a lot of controversial things I don’t necessarily agree with but as a musician and artist, he’s hands down a genius. He’s always pushing the boundaries and has been ahead of our time since the beginning. *

In your option what is your favorite song you’ve done to date?

My favorite song I say is my most recent “PERFXTION” and right next to it is “RUTH”.

What advice would you give to someone looking to become an artist?

Keep working on your craft and believe in yourself more than anyone. At first you won’t have a lot of people believing in you but you got to turn people into believers. Don’t ask anyone to do anything for you, go get it. Be different and never be someone your not. Lastly, and most importantly, keep God first and remain humble.
