HotBoy Flem from Paducah, Kentucky is Looking To Have A Breakout Year As A New Face On The Music Scene. Check out his full interview below and be sure to follow Jukebox Culture on Instagram.

How was life growing up?

Life was pretty average, I grew up in the projects so I am a product of my environment but my mother always worked hard to try her best to make ends meet.. sometimes we went without.. mother had 5 kids and it was always a family friend or someone staying with us from the time I was 3-4 until I was 18 and moved out…

How did the rap name come to be?

My rap name Hotboy Flem came about because I was the hottest in the streets.. I could elaborate but I got open case right now. Lol Flem is just short for my last name Flemons.

When and how did you start making music?
I’ve always made music, I’ve just never taking music seriously until now.. I’ve made songs a shot videos and just wouldn’t do anything with them because I was so tied in the streets but now it’s like it’s time..

How would you describe your music for someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I would describe my music to someone who haven’t heard it as.. Trap Rap.. Street Music.. Music that’s gone make you feel yourself, type of music make you want to go get some money

What artists inspired you the most and who do you currently listen to?

The most inspirational artist to me in my life was Boosie.. he talked about a lot I could relate to growing up. Im currently am big on Gates, Lil Baby, Babyface Ray really just like real rap. People who actually talking about something.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

The best advice I’ve been given so far is to just get serious and keep pushing. I was told I needed to travel more and get more social on my social sites and networking.. and invest in myself honestly probably some of the best advice because it wasn’t sugar coated.

What kind of support do you get from your home town/state?

The hometown support is always half and half. I mean I feel like most of the town love me but where there is love there is hate and you know how jealousy goes.. I don’t want to speak it into existence so all I see is love right now. I love my city and it love me back.

What really makes you stand out and different from other artists?

I feel like I stand out as a artist and I’m different because rap is so ABC now a days and a lot of rappers really ain’t talking about anything or just be lying in general.. with me I’m in my own lane.. I’m coming hard every song, Versatile, I’m not cap rapping for no likes and I’m gone try to make you feel it.. in some way, shape, form, or fashion I want my audience to be able to relate to me.. either if it’s through your own life situations or somebody close to you.

What’s your biggest goal in the music industry?

My biggest goal in the music industry is to make a way for Kentucky.. its little to no recognition here unlike other cities.. it’s so much talent around here and little opportunity.. so I want to take the make a opportunity for us.

If you could collaborate with one single artist who would it be and why?

If I could collaborate with any artist I’d prob pick Lil Baby.. he too hard.. he walking down everything in plus he a street dude.. when I listen to his music I can relate.. I feel him.
