Meet Lex, the Cynthiana native who currently resides in Lexington, KY. We had a moment to chat about his music, new video and more in our latest interview below –
Where are you from and how was life growing up? I’m actually from cynthiana, Kentucky. A way smaller town than Lexington or Louisville. I was kinda a army brat so I’ve lived in a few cities prior to my teenage years. At 13 I moved to Lexington and things was a lot different. I had to learn early on how to defend myself and learn who trust quickly. Bc life moved a lot faster in Lexington.
How did the artist name come to be? When I started rapping I felt like I wanted to be the best rapper in my city. So why not be named after my city.Ā
Where does inspiration come from for creating music? My inspiration just comes from everyday life. I’ve been thru a lot I’ve seen a lot ive done a lot to survive or get by. So my music is my life. It’s not always bad and the struggle. I do have good times too! LolĀ
What artist inspire you the most and who are you currently listening too? Well I first started wanting to rap bc of my homie G Mack he was a pretty famous local talent so that’s what inspired me to actually rap. But people like 2pac, drake, jay z lil Wayne people like that inspire me to keep goin I love the artistry. I’m currently listening to king von,nip and pop smoke. I really feel what they talking about bc I can relate. So sad we lost those guysĀ
What kind of support do you get from your hometown/state? I been rapping for awhile but since I been out and reinvented myself as a artist I’d say my city is showing me a lot of love. It’s just hard blowing out of a place like Lexington bc you can have some support but not enough to where you get a lot of notice from the outside world. They treat us like the little brother to Louisville lol
If you wasnt creating music what would you be doing right now? If I wasn’t doin the music thang I’d be working out tryna be a better football player. I love football. I play semi pro football now. Music has just taken over lolĀ
What really makes you stand out from other artists? My sound….I don’t rap like I’m from a certain area I don’t think. I just make music that I like and go where the beat takes me. Whether it’s an aggressive Ā rap style or a melodic sound I can do all pretty…I think lol.Ā
What’s your biggest goal in the music industry? I just want to continue to make music that I love on a bigger stage. Of course everybody wants the money and the fame but I Also just want to be heard around the world.Ā
If you could collaborate with one artist who would it be and why? This is prolly everybody answer but drake. I feel like both of us together could create a sound that nobody has really heard. I think we would just mesh bc he’s the type of artist I inspire to be. But in my own lane. Just from a creativity stand point.
Favorite artist of all time and why?Ā Lol….currently my favorite artist of all time would be drake. There’s nothing he can’t do.Ā
What advice would you give to inspiring rappers? My advice would just be be yourself and be as real as possible. You want people to respect you for you. Don’t change on em
