DJ HITMAN DB love for music began at an early age, he didn’t
stumble across his passion for DJ’ing until college. The infamous “DJ
HITMAN DB” house parties were one for the books. It was from here that DB
realized he couldn’t let this gift go to waste. His older cousin, James
Lester is the one that taught him the basic fundamentals that eventually
made him the DJ he is today. DJ HITMAN DB is the man behind one of South Georgia’s most anticipated annual summer events, “#SUMMERFEST” which has been endorsed by legends such as Boosie Badazz. He has DJ’d for Lil Baby, Kollision, YFN Lucci, Kodak Black , Plies, Da Baby, Key Glock, TLE Cinco, Kamillion, Bank Roll Fresh (R.I.P) Flexico, Nukk The Real, Haitian Head and more. He has also been on air with other DJ’s like DJ Tremayne, Fat Boy Rhymer, DJ Tray, DJ Polo, DJ
Offset and DJ Showtime. DB is currently represented by South Coast Music Group’s official publicist, Bianca Rugimbana

Where are you from?
I grew up all over the world, so a hometown isnāt something I really have, but I do claim Germany, where I graduated from high school in Wurzburg.
What was life like growing up?
Life growing up was fun, I really lived a true childhood from riding bikes, being outside all day and doing what kids do. Moving from state to state and city to city really broke that social barrier for me. Being that Iāve been here and there, I really wasnāt scared or too nervous about meeting new people. The only thing that I donāt have like everyone else does is that “going home feeling” and that hometown feeling, but I was also always told that home is where you make it.
How did you get into the music scene and become a DJ?
My cousin introduced me to the DJ scene and he told me I should keep doing it, even though it took me awhile to actually start though because I always wanted to be all in the crowd, socializing and partying with everyone else. I then got booked once to DJ without actually being a “DJ”. I didnāt have any turntables, just a laptop with music so I get to the club with the legendary DJ Tremayne and he asked what I had and I just showed him my laptop; I was so embarrassed, but I got myself together after that day!

What was the first song, event or experience that really boosted your career?
The first event that really boosted my career was my very first Summerfest in 2014. It was actually called “SummerJam” but i decided to change the name not to get confused with the event that goes on in Atlanta. Thatās when I noticed that maybe I should take it more seriously. It was a sold out event and people were waiting in line before the doors actually opened. I was so nervous but this was when I realized that people came to party with me.
The first song that boosted my career would have to be āShitā by Future because this was when I figured how to loop songs, bring it back, and get the crowd more involved with the song. I turned the music down and heard the whole crowd singing the song and that definitely sent chills through my body and put a smile on my face.
How did you get your name DJ Hitman DB?
My original name was just DJ DB, but it didnāt really have a ring to it, so I talked to a couple of other DJ’s and one DJ that did graphic designing also pitched the name “DB The Hitman”, so we talked about it and switched it around then BOOM, āDJ HITMAN DBā and I LOVE IT.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
I can’t say I just have one person that inspires me the most but I enjoy DJ’s that really rock the big arenas. I like to call them entertainers because you’re really putting a show on for the crowd. When I DJ, the people in the crowd really get me going and if the crowd is rocking with you, itās like a boost of energy so that always keeps me going.
Most expensive jewelry piece?
Well, I believe when you elevate in your career, other things must elevate along with it but with my parents reading this article, let’s just say I could buy a car with my jewelry lol! You have to treat yourself right.
What has been the most difficult part of being a DJ?
When you enjoy what you do, thereās really nothing too difficult but I would have to say PREPARATION. When it comes to the music part, not only do the big artistsā drop songs, but also other artists that you may never have heard of drop and a lot of them are “slept” on, so you have to stay watching and listening. Going through songs and just selecting the right songs can be tough but you may have discovered the next banger so you never know and sometimes you have to take that risk!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself owning my own club, still putting events together and also DJ’n for a major artist āFlexicoā.
If you could collab or open up for one major artist, who would it be and why?
There are so many artists I would love to open up for but I can’t just pick one.
– Future of course, I mean he’s an arena artist so its a light show, smoke show basically something you donāt see every day now. His first mixtape as Future 1000, even before people knew of him when they called him “Meathead”, he has come a long way. Back when mixtapes were dropping heavy on livemixtapes and we used to watch the countdown to download it. So Future is a must!!!!
– Lil Baby definitely. He’s the hottest thing out right now and Iāve seen his growth and been listening to him for years now. His work ethic is crazy and I would love to see him rock out from the DJ BOOTH, that would really be a blessing.
– Da Baby as well, I’ve actually DJ’d for him before but his energy stage and performance is crazy like he really puts on a show and his crowd interaction is crazy too.
Rod Wave ā I mean because who doesnāt like Rod Wave Trap Melody / R&B. Itās really a vibe. So Iād definitely work with Rod.
What advice would you give to someone looking to become a DJ?
I would say nothing happens over night. Some people are blessed and placed in a position but others have to work hard to get noticed or even get recognition. But if itās something that you truly want to do, you have to invest in yourself and network!
