It goes without saying when speaking in regards of Drake and his legacy as an artist. Being titled as the Artist of the Decade from many publications–and arguably one of the greatest artists we have ever seen in music, there are seldom who have touched on the career and secured the accolades he has gained over the span of the 2010s. Not even just in music, but in his business ventures as well. Being an artist of his caliber, it can be difficult to get him to stop in the middle of what he’s doing to get him to do anything. That being said, Drake infrequently commits to any interviews from anybody due to a fear of a hidden agenda to exploit or use the content for clicks and buzz. Nevertheless, Drake decided to sit down with the ever-so-talented media journalist Elliott Wilson on his Rap Radar Podcast.
During their almost two and a half hour sit down at Drake’s multi-million dollar Toronto mansion, The guys cover a myriad of topics all surrounding around the past five or so years that Drake has had. We all know by now the situations that have occurred from his rap beefs, relationship troubles, having his son, and many more. Drake has never been one to speak about personal moments of his life in the media. “Breakin’ news in my life, I don’t run to the blogs” he raps on his 2018 Scorpion album cut “Emotionless”–so to hear him finally sit down and set the record straight about some the situations he has gone through and capture exactly how he’s feeling at this point in time was a great thing to see.
Some of the topics include his views on cultural appropriation and him being accused of it, him speaking about singing in hip hop and the popularization of it, his thoughts on making amends with Kanye after their back and forth feud over the years, his ghostwriting allegations, admitting his loss to Pusha T during their squabble which he confirms he has “no desire” to make amends with, and many more. He also speaks about his views on relationships at this point in his career in which he states:
” I’m the captain of a ship, and I look behind me and I see a lot of people on board. Full steam ahead. That’s just how I have to keep rocking for right now. Hopefully I can find somebody that can just stand beside me at the wheel and help me steer while we keep the journey going as opposed to me having to pull over because that person is getting seasick.
